Horticulture Internship
2006

Lyndhurst, a 67-acre museum property overlooking the Hudson River, is owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The park-like historic landscape has numerous specimen trees and shrubs dating from the mid-19th century. Lyndhurst is also home to one of the country’s first and largest metal constructed greenhouses built in the late 1800’s.

Qualifications

Applicants should have at least one year of Horticulture education and/ or training.

Intern Job Description

Assist in all phases of garden maintenance and development. Emphasis is placed on refining horticulture skills through hands on experience. Operation and maintenance of all garden equipment will be taught which includes: lawn mowers, weed-wackers, tractor, and chipper.

Special Projects:

  • Installing and maintaining new annual and perennial beds
  • Maintenance of existing shrub beds
  • Work with garden club members on enhanced maintenance of restored Rose Garden
  • Horticultural site work as needed

Job Duration: 10 weeks between May and September by mutual agreement

Salary/ Benefits: $1,000 stipend; onsite housing
